We have been holding endurance events since 2012. We put together races in which teams of drivers take turns to drive the karts over a 2-6 hour race-time. The team with the most completed laps at the end of the race wins.
Teams have to decide when they want to pit, how long they want each driver to stay out in their stints and other racing strategies. There is usually a minimum limit on driver changes, which affects the strategies as one driver will usually need to race twice.
For these trips we tend to go to some of the bigger tracks in the country and have teams of 3-5 drivers competing.
In 2011, we first experienced competing in the British 24hr race in Teesside Autodrome . We have returned to Teesside every year since, building on our experience to become very competitive in the standard hire class.
The best drivers over the course of the college year are chosen for our team of 5 to race in the competition, following tactics set out by the team manager to achieve an average of just under 5 hours in the kart over the 24 hour race-time.
