JOHN HANRAHAN MEMORIAL CUP![]() Every year, DIT Karting Club hosts its most anticipated and important event; the John Hanrahan Memorial Cup. This Cup is dedicated to the memory of its namesake: John Hanrahan, a former DIT student and member of DIT Karting Club.
John studied Mechanical Engineering in Bolton Street and always had a great interest in karting. Tragically he died in a karting accident in 2003. This event was created to remember the spirit and passion for karting that he always showed. Held in the second semester, we travel down to Ireland's biggest outdoor track: Pallas Karting, Galway. This event is extra special as past members are invited back to compete for the great honour of winning the John Hanrahan Cup. The Cup is presented to the winning drivers by the Hanrahan family in a local pub. It is here where the swapping of stories between present members, alumni and the the Hanrahan family truly shows our new members the club's history and the passion we all share for racing. Later that evening after all the craic in the pub, we travel into Galway city to continue the night by experiencing the amazing nightlife that Galway is famous for! It's truly a night that every student should experience. |
